Add a comment to episode 8: Cicadas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Soft-Shelled Cicadas Snack<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Ingredients:\n<br \/>1 cup Italian dressing\n<br \/>60 freshly emerged 17-year cicadas\n<br \/>4 eggs, beaten\n<br \/>3 cups flour\n<br \/>Salt, pepper, garlic powder, thyme &#038; paprika\n<br \/>1 cup corn oil\n<br \/>1 cup marinara sauce, heated<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Directions:\n<br \/>Remove the wings and marinate the cicadas (best done in a plastic ziplock &#8220;baggie&#8221;) in Italian dressing for at least four hours.\n<br \/>Mix the salt, pepper, garlic powder, thyme and paprika with the flour in a bowl.\n<br \/>Dip cicadas in the beaten eggs, and then roll them in the seasoned flour and gently saut\u00e9 them for 3 minutes in hot oil until they are golden brown.\n<br \/>Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>The Simple Cicada<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Ingredients:\n<br \/>2 cups blanched cicadas\n<br \/>Butter\n<br \/>2 cloves crushed garlic\n<br \/>2 tbsp. finely chopped fresh basil, or to taste\n<br \/>4 oz. Shitake mushrooms\n<br \/>2 oz. fresh spinach\n<br \/>1 lb. of your favorite pasta\n<br \/>Olive oil<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Directions:\n<br \/>Boil pasta in a pot of salted water.\n<br \/>Melt butter in saut\u00e9 pan over medium heat. Add garlic and saut\u00e9 for 30 seconds. Add basil, cicadas, spinach and mushrooms and continue cooking, turning down the heat if necessary, for 5 minutes or until the cicadas begin to look crispy and the basil and spinach are wilted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Toss with cooked pasta and olive oil; sprinkle with parmesan cheese, if desired. Yields 4 servings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Chocolate-Chip Trillers<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Ingredients:\n<br \/>2 1\u20444 cups flour\n<br \/>1 tsp. baking soda\n<br \/>1 tsp. salt\n<br \/>1 cup butter, softened\n<br \/>3\u20444 cup sugar\n<br \/>3\u20444 cup brown sugar\n<br \/>1 tsp. vanilla\n<br \/>2 eggs\n<br \/>1 12-ounce pkg. chocolate chips\n<br \/>1 cup chopped nuts\n<br \/>1\u20442 cup dry-roasted chopped cicadas<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Directions:\n<br \/>Preheat oven to 375 degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>In a large bowl, combine butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla; beat until creamy. Beat in eggs. Gradually add flour mixture and cicadas, mixing well. Stir in chocolate chips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Scoop-up a teaspoonful of batter, and drop it onto ungreased cookie sheet. Repeat until all batter is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Cook for 8-10 minutes.
